I think its about time we talked about blenders!
When I first started on this Raw Food journey I didn't even have a blender to my name much less a food processor! And according to all the books I read and the websites I had researched you needed a Vitamix and Excalibur to do anything! OK so where was I going to get that kind of money?
Not all of us can rush right out and get either of those, so what I did was ask my relatives first. No one at the time had anything of the sort or they were using them and afraid to give them up. So now what?
I went to our neighborhood Goodwill and found my first blender! It was a Hamilton Beach! Really good blender! I honestly put it to the test on many a smoothie! I eventually gave it to a friend and according to her its still working! Since that Hamilton Beach I have had many a cheap blender! I've had a Black & Decker which did not hold up to the pounding I gave it, a Proctor Silex, and another off brand. Then I got a 10 speed Oster! Wow what a machine! When the cap broke and I couldn't find a replacement I went back to the cheap blenders until I acquired the Kitchen Aid Osterizer (a friend of my moms gave it to her and she gave it to me). Now that is a full kitchen appliance. It is a blender, food processor, shredder, meat grinder, and mixer all in one! Sweet!! Unfortunately, the motor finally gave up and I almost had a funeral for it :(. Such a sad state of affairs...
Until... I realized the blender jar from the Kitchen aid Oster fit the 10 speed Oster!! Hallelujah!!!
Anyway, the lesson here is NOT to buy any old cheap thing make sure it is a quality appliance.
